Promotional Shelf Label Design Tool

A desktop application that automates the design and printing of promotional shelf labels by importing product data from Excel, matching product images, and generating consistent, print-ready price materials.

Application DeveloperC#Microsoft Excel

Problem

When Excel files containing products and their prices before and after discounts were distributed, branch system administrators had to recreate promotional shelf labels manually using Paint and copy-and-paste operations. This consumed significant time and effort and led to inconsistent presentation and branding across branches.

Goals

Create a fast, easy-to-use tool that converts offer data into print-ready price labels, standardizes promotional materials across branches, and minimizes repetitive manual design work.

Solution

A C# desktop application was developed to import Excel files containing up to roughly one thousand products and automatically place each product name and its before-and-after price on a standardized template. It also matches product images by item number and exports print-ready label images. A branch-stock check was later added so labels are generated only for products actually available at that location.

Process

  1. 01

    Research & analysis

Understand the problem, workflow, and actual user needs.

  2. 02

    Planning

Map the solution logic and select suitable tools and technologies.

  3. 03

    Development

Build the features, process data, and connect system elements.

  4. 04

    Testing

Validate functionality and results, then address feedback.

  5. 05

    Launch

Prepare and deliver the solution for operational use.

Challenges

Development time was constrained by long branch working hours, and technical support was limited despite successful validation by warehouse and logistics teams. During use, it also became clear that some products in the offer file were unavailable at particular branches, so the tool was enhanced with branch inventory checks to avoid generating labels for unavailable items.

Results

The tool reduced preparation time by approximately 50% and lowered manual effort to 5% or less compared with the previous Paint-based workflow. It also standardized promotional presentation and branding across branches and made high-volume label production faster and more consistent.
